I made a garland of sweethearts a couple of years ago to decorate the registration table at a girlfriend’s wedding. I was very upset to not be able to attend her wedding as we were still living overseas in UK at that time and her wedding was held in Singapore. So by airmail, I sent my love and well wishes in a string of hearts as they tied their knots that day.

Strung this up at a recent workshop and had a couple of requests for the pattern, so here it is and remember to click on the image as I also provided the pattern in symbolic form for the more visual-oriented amongst you. Enjoy making sweethearts for one in your life.

Pattern for Sweethearts:

Rnd 1: Start with a magic ring. 10 sc and join to first sc with ss. Close the ring by pulling the tail end.

Rnd 2: Do not ch for lift. 5 dc in the next sc, 1 dc in each of next 3 sc, 1 tr in next sc (this forms the bottom pointy tip of heart), 1 dc in each of next 3 sc, 5 dc in the next sc, ss to first sc.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in each of next 3 sts, 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, in the next st which is a tr from the prev rnd work (1 sc, 1 ch, 1 sc) which gives a pointy tip, then 1 sc in each of the next 4 sts, 2 sc in each of the next 3 sts, 1 sc in the last st and ss to the valley of the heart.

Fasten off. Make as many sweethearts as your heart desires. Join into a garland by chaining a long chain, and ss-ing to the top tips of the heart at regular intervals.
